When I was just starting standup, I took a comedy class. Most comics think that you can’t learn stand up but there are basic rules to comedy writing that can be taught. For example, there are joke writing techniques that can be taught. Think of it like a writing class. What can’t be taught in a comedy class is style. The only way you can learn your style is by constantly going on stage and performing. Don’t take a class were the teacher criticizes your style, you are a performer and you should be allowed to be find yourself. I suggest auditing a class first before spending money on one.
