Psychology Today: The Curious Grit of Loni Love

Screen Shot 2015-11-17 at 11.49.30 AMThank you to Psychology Today for this wonderful profile. Check out the excerpt below, to read the full article including my interview, head to Psychology Today:

Not only does she co-host the television talk show “The Real” and co-host the radio show “Café Mocha with M.C. Lyte, but she will also host the Ellen DeGeneres-produced TV show “Heads Up” She has been a stand-up comedian for years and has appeared in several movies…including the upcoming Garry Marshall-produced Mother’s Day, and has a new documentary Being Loni Love on Centric TV.

But perhaps even more impressive is how Love has thoughtfully and systematically approached her life and career. By keeping an open mind, seeking out new opportunities and working hard towards her goals, Love has been able to overcome a range of obstacles such as poverty, racism, sexism, and weight discrimination to achieve success. And her inspirational story delivers a clear message:  With enough curiosity and grit, one can overcome barriers and reach new heights.

#BeingLoniLove in the Detroit News

Shout out to my hometown paper, what a wonderful article!

BLLActor and talk show host Loni Love has enjoyed a healthy stand-up career for more than a decade, but this year the Detroit native really hit her stride in Hollywood.

“The Real,” her daytime talk show on Fox, returned for season two earlier this month with a 1.1 rating, a nearly 40 percent improvement over last season’s debut. It was ranked No. 1 in it’s time period in New York, beating out all other programming (most notably, “The View”). Ratings were also high in Love’s hometown.

“When we got the ratings back, Detroit was the highest and everybody (on the show) was like ‘oh yeah, Loni!’ I was like ‘oh yeah, my people come through!’ I want to thank Detroit for coming through. Some of the highest ratings in the country were from Detroit,” she said in a telephone interview last week with The Detroit News.

On Saturday, Love will be the subject of the Centric network show “Being Loni Love.” In the episode she revisits her childhood in Detroit, including the Brewster-Douglass Housing Projects, where she grew up.

From Variety:

Timothy Olyphant (“Justified”), Shay Mitchell (“Pretty Little Liars”) and “Tomorrowland” star Britt Robertson have joined Open Road’s ensemble cast for the romantic comedy “Mother’s Day.”

Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson and Jason Sudeikis have already been announced for “Mother’s Day,” which started shooting Aug. 19 in Atlanta, with Garry Marshall directing.

Jack Whitehall, Aasif Mandvi (“The Brink”) and Loni Love have also joined the cast. The script was written by the team of Anya Kochoff-Romano and Lily Hollander, along with Matt Walker and Tom Hines.

Olyphant plays the ex-husband of Aniston’s character and Mitchell will play his new wife, who wants nothing more than to be the perfect stepmom. Robertson plays a slightly neurotic new mother to a year-old girl. Whitehall will play an aspiring standup comedian and boyfriend of Robertson’s character, Kristin.

“Mother’s Day” is produced by Wayne Rice and Gulfstream Pictures’ Mike Karz, along with Daniel Diamond and Brandt Andersen. The film hits theaters on April 29 — a week before the actual holiday.

Woke Up & Smelled The Venetian Roses – Check Out My Day In Vegas!

Hey Lovebugs, last week before my gig at Lipshtick Lounge, I had the honor of hosting a Twitter Q&A #AskLoni PLUS while at  The Venetian Las Vegas, I got to unveil a new variety of rose, The Venetian Rose, named for the resort. Such a fun day!

LL-danabeaty

Here I am with Dana Beatty, head of floral and horticulture. This new breed of rose has warm coco peach undertones and champagne hues. (That sealed the deal! LOL!)  They chose it to complement The Palazzo Rose that debuted in 2012!

They smelled so good! Make sure next time you’re in Vegas, you check it out, it’s exclusively available at The Venetian and you can buy it in the floral department! What a treat!

Oh! Don’t forget to catch me in Vegas October 10th at The Venetian’s Lipshtick Lounge! You can read more about the Venetian Rose at VegasNews.com

XOXO
